Locked entrance at Archives metro station in Washington, DC on Friday, March 27, 2020. WMATA officials announced on Thursday that 19 stations will be closed to help protect the health and safety of Metro’s employees, and customers. People are being urged to use adjacent stations as no shuttle buses will be provided.

World Health Organization WHO was informed  on 31 December, 2019 that “a pneumonia of unknown cause” had been detected in Wuhan, the largest city in Hubei province in central China. On 30 January declared the new disease a public health emergency of international concern: the agency’s highest ranking of risk assessment.   On March 11 WHO upgraded the status of outbreak from epidemic to pandemic.

COVID-19 is the name of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus. COVID-19 is an acronym that stands for coronavirus disease of 2019
